120 guestroom hotel, situated in the coastal town of Patong, Phuket.
Brief: To create a seamless, contemporary space for the adventurous international traveller.
“Simple Lines, great design”, being our design philosphy for the space. Inspired by the powerful ocean, dominant mountains and the nature surrounding the province. Along with the resourcefulness of the local craftsmen, we have created a clean, meditative environment for the guest to escape the bustling town of Patong. To maintain this clean flow throughout we have utilised the same basic materials to all areas, from Public Areas through to the Guestrooms.

Public Areas - Lobby Lounge / Restaurant

PUBLIC AREAS
PUBLIC AREAS:
The guest enters from the bustling streets of Patong to be embraced by the santuary of the hotel lobby and reception. Both of which, have ‘cocoon-like’’ structures that are designed to offer the guest refuge and peace from the outside world. A welcoming and meditative environment and a stark contrast to the motion found on the streets of this coastal town. Inspired by the beautiful and masterly constructed woven fishing basket traps, that you can find dotted around this island province. The structure wraps around both the lounge and reception furniture in a protective, sculptural form, giving a natural division between the lounge and the restaurant and bar beyond.
The materials selected are used throughout the hotel giving a seamless flow between all areas as well as helping to open up the space and project a clean, calm, contemporary and contemplative environment for the guest.
Materials: Concrete, timber, rattan / bamboo with accents of ceramic and splashes of indigo.
All of these are inspired by the surroundings and crafts of the island. Indigo is the accent colour that runs throughout the building. A homage to the simplicity and beauty of the indigo dying found locally and throughout Thailand. Upholstery remains neutral with indigo accents and rugs that show a relationship to the powerful Andaman Sea that surrounds Phuket.
GUESTROOM
GUESTROOMS:
The rooms promote the ‘simple lines, great design’ ethos that centres around all that we have forged. Clean, crisp, mediative and relaxing spaces, created with the help of minimal materials. This gives the appearance of more space in an otherwise less than generous capacity. Beds that hover to create the illusion of space; light materials such as woven basketry panels to the headboard wall, set against neutral painted walls; contrasting with the warmth of the full height panelled timber doors and dark lines of the open wardrobes. Furniture is limited to the bare minimum to create an uncluttered but comfortable room.
“Clean lines, great design”
Simple open wardrobes frame the wall opposite the bed and lead your eye through the room to the window with its glazed balcony, giving a much needed extension to the space. The vertical framework in black is offset by the horizontal wooden shelves.
The furniture selection is a contemporary mix that echoes the skills and crafts found on the island. Clean lines and practical space saving designs. Tables that house an extra pouffe that can be taken out to be used on the balcony. Hanging woven macrami plant holders, with flourishing tropical plants, brighten up the balcony and help to bring nature back into the space. The accent colours of celedon green, indigo and ginger bring emphasis into the room and reverberate the use of these in many of the local crafts, architectural finishes - Sino Portuguese tiles - and the colour of the natural setting of this tropical island.
The bed hovers over a neutral rug with movement and rhythm, with accents of indigo and ginger. Once again giving the guest a sense of the magestic sea that envelops Phuket. Hanging, colourful, light pendants frame the bed. Hovering over the contrasting deep indigo of the bedside tables, softened by their glazed rattan table top inserts.
BATHROOMS:
Concrete walls offset by colourful Sino-Portuguese tile accents to the shower wall and entrance wall.
