Public Areas
Freelance Designer - Nous Design, London
Task - Concept design, FF&E, Coloured plans / elevations, Project Manage
Brief - To design multipurpose public areas to combine both meeting, conference, lounge and dining configurations. As well as the apartment accommodation to the top floors of this important historical building in Oslo for Chabad movement.
Theme - The tree of life.
The growth of the tree is symbolised throughout the building from the beautiful hand tufted carpet to the grand staircase; plaster detail to the entrance and stairs; tree ring detail to the centre of the lobbies that gives the impression of a cross-section of the tree running through all the floors; light fittings that mirror the detail to the centre of the lobbies; textured panelling inspired by the trunk of the tree; stain-glass windows that have tree branches fanning out; central decorative floating, crystal leaves that cascade down the entrance stairs.
Restoration - to pay attention to and maintain the original staircase and bring life back to the beautiful carved balastrade.
Finishes to the entrance and lobbies
